The 0.5% w/w Chlorhexidine Acetate BP provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial action against many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria; however, its efficacy against spores, fungi, and viruses is limited. Gram-positive bacteria are generally more susceptible than gram-negative, with some Pseudomonas and Proteus species exhibiting reduced sensitivity. Applications include: absorbing and containing wound drainage from minor abrasions and ulcers to prevent infection; supplementary support to systemic antibiotics when medically indicated.
