Eleron drops provide iron as Iron(III) Hydroxide Polymaltose Complex, equivalent to elemental iron. Its advantage over traditional ferrous salts lies in its pre-formed ferric state, eliminating the need for conversion before binding to ferritin. This ferric form prevents the generation of harmful free radicals and cellular damage associated with ferrous salts. As a non-ionic ferric salt, Eleron bypasses the need for conversion to a soluble ferrous form in the stomach, ensuring direct absorption. This non-ionic nature minimizes gastrointestinal side effects like gastritis, diarrhea, and intolerance, common with ferrous salts. Eleron's 100% elemental iron content surpasses that of ferrous sulfate or fumarate (30-33%), by a factor of three, while its controlled absorption reduces overdose risk.
