Overview FreeStyle Libre System - Reader | Blood Glucose Monitors
The FreeStyle Libre System, comprising a reader and sensor, measures interstitial fluid glucose levels in individuals aged 4 and older with diabetes mellitus, including pregnant individuals. This system, designed to replace routine finger-prick blood glucose testing for diabetes self-management, including insulin dosing, enables discreet glucose monitoring. Its continuous glucose tracking reveals patterns and trends. A single-second scan displays current glucose levels, the preceding eight hours' data, and a directional trend arrow. Ninety days of glucose data are stored for comprehensive trend analysis. The system also facilitates blood glucose and ketone level measurement via a test strip port. To operate, power on the reader, select a language, set the date and time, define target glucose ranges, and then scan the sensor affixed to the upper arm. Readings, including the trend arrow, appear on the screen. Crucially, disregard any readings inconsistent with symptoms; verify questionable readings with a fingerstick blood glucose meter and consult a healthcare professional for persistent discrepancies. For children aged 4-17, adult supervision (18+) is mandatory for system use, data interpretation, and management. The system contains small parts posing a choking hazard. Keep the reader's USB and test strip ports free from contaminants. Note: Glucose readings may differ from capillary blood glucose levels due to physiological variations, particularly during periods of rapid blood glucose fluctuations. Do not resterilize; irradiation may compromise accuracy.
How to Use FreeStyle Libre System - Reader | Blood Glucose Monitors:
Activate the device by pressing the home button. Choose your language via the touchscreen if requested, then tap 'OK'. Configure the date and time using the touchscreen controls; tap 'Next' to proceed. Input your desired glucose target range. Select 'Done' to return to the main screen. Scan the sensor affixed to your upper arm's posterior using the reader. The display will then show your glucose reading and directional trend indicator.
Safety Instruction of FreeStyle Libre System - Reader | Blood Glucose Monitors:
- Children aged 4 to 17 years may only use this product under the direct supervision of an adult caregiver aged 18 or older. This caregiver is responsible for overseeing the child's use of the reader and sensor, and for helping the child understand and interpret glucose readings from the sensor.
- The FreeStyle Libre flash glucose monitoring system incorporates miniature components posing a potential ingestion hazard.
- Keep the reader's USB and test strip ports free from dust, dirt, blood, control solution, water, or other contaminants.
- Variations in glucose measurements can arise from the inherent physiological discrepancies between capillary blood and interstitial fluid. These measurement disparities are particularly noticeable during periods of fluctuating blood glucose levels, including postprandial states, following insulin administration, or after physical activity.
- Re-sterilization is not permitted. Repeated irradiation may compromise test accuracy.
