Gentolax Syrup, an oral formulation, facilitates bowel movements. Its key components, in a 15 mL dose, include 3.75 mL liquid paraffin and 11.25 mL magnesium hydroxide (also known as Milk of Magnesia due to its milky consistency). Magnesium hydroxide acts as both an antacid, neutralizing stomach acidity, and a laxative, drawing fluid into the intestines via osmosis, stimulating colonic nerves, and promoting bowel movements. Liquid paraffin, a lubricating mineral oil, softens stool for easier passage. Gentolax is suitable for treating constipation, particularly providing comfortable bowel movements for individuals with hernias and those experiencing age-related constipation.
