Quicksilver cyanide, a mercury-based compound, finds application in treating acute illnesses, particularly respiratory and oral ailments. Symptoms suggesting its use include intense agitation, fits of rage, excessive speech, sunken eyes, and pallor. Oral manifestations present as ulcerations, pale tongue, profuse salivation, foul breath, swollen and painful salivary glands, and gray membrane-coated ulcers. Throat symptoms encompass raw, sore sensations, ulcerated mucous membranes, raw patches (especially affecting vocalists), painful hoarseness, and potentially necrotic destruction of the soft palate and throat. Intense throat redness and dysphagia are also noted. Other symptoms include epistaxis, diphtheria of the nose and larynx, bilious or bloody nausea and vomiting, hiccups, abdominal pain and tenderness, intolerable rectal pain, anal redness, frequent hemorrhagic stools with tenesmus, fetid, gangrenous-smelling discharge, black stools, scanty, amber, painful, albuminous urine, nephritis with severe weakness and chills, and urinary suppression.
