Mercury cyanide forms the basis of Mercurius Cyanatus. Its application is primarily in acute illnesses, particularly respiratory distress and oral ailments. Symptoms it addresses include intense agitation, fits of rage, and excessive speech; sunken eyes and pallor; extensive mouth ulceration with a pale tongue, profuse salivation, foul breath, and swollen, painful salivary glands; gray membranes on oral ulcers. Throat symptoms involve raw, sore sensations, ulcerated mucous membranes, raw patches (especially in those who use their voice extensively), painful hoarseness, and potentially necrotic destruction of the soft palate and throat. Further indicators include intense throat redness, dysphagia, dark nasal bleeding, diphtheria of the nose and larynx, nausea, bilious or bloody vomiting, hiccups, abdominal pain and tenderness, excruciating rectal pain, anal redness, frequent hemorrhaging with tenesmus and foul, gangrenous discharge, and black stools. Urinary symptoms present as amber, painful, albuminous, and scanty urine, possibly including nephritis with severe weakness and chills, and urinary suppression. The skin may be clammy and icy cold.
