Mercury cyanide, the basis of Mercurius Cyanatus, finds application in acute illnesses, particularly respiratory distress and oral pathologies. Manifestations include intense agitation, outbursts of anger, and excessive speech; sunken eyes and pallor. The mouth displays ulcerations; the tongue, pale; salivation profuse; breath foul. Salivary glands swell and are painful; ulcers are coated with a grayish film. The throat feels raw and sore, with ulcerated, eroded mucous membranes; raw patches, especially in those who speak frequently, are noted. Hoarseness and speech are painful. Necrosis may affect the soft palate and throat. Intense faucial redness and dysphagia are present. Nosebleeds of dark blood may occur; diphtheria of the nose and larynx may develop. Nausea, bilious or bloody vomiting, and hiccups are possible; abdominal pain and tenderness are common. Rectal pain is severe, with perianal redness, frequent bleeding, tenesmus, and foul, gangrenous discharge; black stools are noted. Urine is amber, painful, scant, and albuminous; nephritis with weakness and chills, and urinary suppression can occur. The skin is clammy and cold. Dosage should adhere to physician's instructions and may be combined with conventional medications. No adverse effects are reported. Observe a 30-minute interval between ingestion and food, drink, or other medications. Avoid strong odors (camphor, garlic, onion, coffee, asafoetida) near the mouth during administration.
