Mercury, known also as Mercurius Hydrargyrum or Quicksilver, is a homeopathic remedy derived from purified mercury, posing no safety concerns while offering significant therapeutic benefits. Its symptoms worsen nocturnally, with sweating, bed warmth, and cold, damp conditions exacerbating them. Patients exhibit extreme sensitivity to temperature fluctuations. Offensive breath and discharges are characteristic. A predisposition to ulceration, bleeding, and tissue degradation is present. Headaches are intense, accompanied by heat and inflammation, a feeling of tight bandaging around the scalp, and burning, foul-smelling eruptions with potential hair loss. The scalp feels tense and excessively oily. Eyes experience burning sensations and corrosive discharges. This remedy is particularly suited to individuals working near fires or with metal casting. Nosebleeds are frequent, often accompanied by foul-smelling, bloody discharge, nasal swelling, and bone destruction; sneezing is triggered by sunlight. Discharge is copious, corrosive, and yellow-green pus-like. Ear symptoms include thick, yellow, fetid, and bloody discharge; earaches worsen with bed warmth and feature nocturnal stabbing pain; boils may develop in the external ear canal. Excessive salivation and spongy gums are common, alongside a moist, yellow, flabby tongue and halitosis. Intense thirst for cold drinks and constant hunger are experienced, with stomach tenderness, hiccups, and regurgitation. Tremors, paralysis, and nocturnal bone pain in the extremities are possible. Profuse perspiration offers no relief. Itching worsens with bed warmth. Fevers are associated with increased sweating, providing no relief, and alternating flushes of heat in localized areas. Dosage should be as directed by a physician and can be used concurrently with conventional medications. A half-hour interval should separate this remedy from food, beverages, and other medications.
