Characteristic symptoms include a leathery, pus-filled head crust; headaches aggravated by talking; decaying tooth roots; ears feeling as if chilled air has entered; a strong urge to dig fingers into the ears; chronic, intensely burning stomach ulcers; a craving for fatty pork; burning tongue pain radiating to the stomach; excessive salivation; chronic gastritis; and gastric ulcers with significant burning.
