Derived from the dried, unopened flower buds of *Artemisia cina*, santonin is a crystalline compound effective against intestinal parasites, notably roundworms and threadworms. Its therapeutic applications also extend to certain eye and urinary tract disorders. Hallucinatory symptoms, including visual, auditory, and gustatory disturbances, may occur. Ocular manifestations can include color blindness, strabismus (cross-eyed), and dark circles under the eyes. Urinary symptoms might present as kidney or bladder infections, urine discoloration (greenish or reddish-purple), painful urination, enuresis (bedwetting), and a sensation of urinary fullness. Additional symptoms may include occipital headache, nasal itching, halitosis, a deep red tongue, bruxism (teeth grinding), nausea improved by eating, a choking sensation, and muscle twitching. Dosage should be as directed by a physician and can be used concurrently with conventional medications. To maximize efficacy, administer at least thirty minutes apart from food, beverages, and other medications. Avoid strong-smelling substances such as camphor, garlic, onion, coffee, or asafoetida during administration. No significant side effects have been documented.
