Softeron capsules combine docusate sodium, iron, and folic acid (vitamin B9). Folic acid plays a vital role in various bodily processes, including DNA synthesis and homocysteine metabolism, crucial for rapid cell growth and division. Adequate folic acid intake is essential for both children and adults to maintain healthy red blood cell production and prevent anemia. Iron's function is oxygen transport and red blood cell maintenance, contributing to energy levels and preventing anemia. While iron supplements can sometimes cause gastrointestinal side effects like constipation, diarrhea, cramps, or upset stomach, the inclusion of docusate sodium, a stool softener, mitigates this risk. Docusate sodium alleviates occasional constipation, typically promoting a bowel movement within 12 to 72 hours.
