Levetiracetam injection is an anticonvulsant medication employed to manage epileptic seizures. It may be administered alone or in conjunction with other medications, providing seizure control for the duration of treatment. This medication is intravenously infused under medical supervision, typically for short-term seizure management when oral administration is impractical (e.g., in unconscious patients). Continuous use, as directed by your physician, is crucial; discontinuation or missed doses can exacerbate seizures. Following injection therapy, your doctor will likely transition you to oral medication for long-term seizure control. Commonly reported adverse effects include dizziness, headache, infection, injection site irritation, upper respiratory infection, somnolence, aggression, and decreased appetite. Behavioral changes, including irritability and agitation, may also occur. Side effects frequently diminish after the initial days of treatment. While many side effects are mild, some require immediate medical attention. Report any allergic reactions (urticaria, pruritus, weakness, dyspnea, facial/lingual/pharyngeal edema), skin rashes, or persistent behavioral alterations (confusion, memory impairment, irritability, heightened aggression) to your doctor immediately. Strategies to mitigate side effects exist. Suicidal ideation has been reported in a small percentage of patients; inform your doctor of any mood deterioration. Prior to treatment, disclose any kidney disease, depression, suicidal ideation, pregnancy, or pregnancy plans. Alcohol consumption should be avoided due to potential seizure exacerbation and intensified drowsiness/dizziness. Somnolence and dizziness can impair driving and operating machinery. Regular kidney function monitoring may be necessary during treatment.

Should you forget a Keppra Injection, administer it immediately. Nevertheless, if your next scheduled dose is imminent, omit the missed injection and resume your usual dosing regimen. Never take a double dose.
