Frequently prescribed for individuals with atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat), rivaroxaban also minimizes clotting risks post-knee or hip replacement surgery. It can be taken with or without food, consistently at the same time daily for optimal effectiveness. Long-term use, sometimes lifelong, may be necessary. Discontinuing or altering dosage without physician consultation is strongly discouraged; doing so significantly increases the risk of stroke, heart attack, or thrombosis (blood clot formation).
